Revolutionizing beekeeping through the development of advanced bee nutrition and hive monitoring

Call for bilateral projects in international technological cooperation with third countries.

The general objective of the project is to develop two innovative products that contribute to the protection of bees:

 

  • A new powdered food for bees that is adaptable to the nutritional needs of hives at different stages of development and in adverse climatic conditions. This food must have a shelf life of more than two years and must be easy to transport and store in extreme climates.

 

  • A new monitoring technology that allows collecting, transmitting and analyzing real-time data on behavior and communication within hives. This data will be used to establish correlations between artificial feeding and hive development.

The main goal for this project is to transform beekeeping through advanced feed products and cutting-edge technology. The project starts with the development of dry bee feed. At the same time, monitoring technologies are developed specifically for the beekeeping industry. Subsequent stages involve real and comparative tests in the United Arab Emirates to refine the technologies. It concludes by evaluating their impact on production and hive survival. The consortium includes ZUKÁN S.L., feed experts, and the Fujairah Research Centre, specialists in monitoring systems. The goal is to breach the divide between research and application, thereby revolutionising beekeeping worldwide. By improving health, productivity and sustainability, this initiative protects bees and their role in the environment.

ZUKAN, S.L.U. is developing this project (file number IDI-20240285), which has been approved by the Spanish Centre for Industrial and Technological Development (CDTI) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under its programme of subsidies for R&D projects.

The project has been ongoing in Molina del Segura since 1 February 2024 and will run until 31 January 2027. The approved budget for the project amounts to €251,268.00.
